There is something about a vintage automobile that stops you completely, a sculpted line, a luminous finish, the quiet authority of a machine built not merely to move but to endure. Assouline captures that singular feeling in Vintage Cars, a volume that transforms automotive history into a luxurious visual experience. Â Structured as an immersive visual journey rather than a traditional chronological history, the book moves through iconic models, extraordinary craftsmanship, and the vibrant culture of the collectors and enthusiasts who continue to preserve and celebrate these legendary machines today.
At its heart is the conviction that vintage automobiles are not simply vehicles but works of art, as worthy of reverence as fine furniture or a masterful oil painting. With an introduction by renowned automotive historian Ken Gross and original photography by celebrated luxury photographer Laziz Hamani, every page reveals the sculptural lines, sumptuous interiors, and luminous finishes that made these machines icons of their era. The cover alone, featuring the breathtaking Maserati Tipo 61, sets the tone perfectly. Â For collectors, enthusiasts, and anyone who understands that true beauty is always worth preserving, this is the definitive tribute to the golden age of motoring.Â
